ABC TMA doesn't only talk the talk when it comes to sustainable transportation options we walk the walk too, or in this case ride. Every morning we bike, walk, and ride our way to work. We experience what our city has to offer for public transit first hand and take these experiences to work with us. Alex Depompolo, TMA Coordinator Every morning Alex has two choices, whether to ride public transit, or jump on a Hubway bike to commute to work. It’s important to keep in mind the trade-offs of each option. If she has a lot to carry she opts to take public transit rather than experiencing the bike balancing act. This journey includes a couple of short walks, a bus, and the train. She enjoys this time in the morning and spends it listening to music, or reading to pass the time. When she has an early morning meeting riding Hubway gets her there faster and lets her breeze past the crowded bus. Her ride to work is quick and enjoyable but the ride back can be a bit challenging; the commute home takes more time to maneuver given all the one ways. Due in part to her first-hand experience she is looking forward to the momentum that is building around the City of Boston Bike Plan that will increase connections and bike routes. This map helps her map out her commute Allison Simmons, TMA Manager For Allison, her daily commute begins at 6 am when she wakes up each morning. Her preferred mode of transit is the commuter rail which is a ten minute drive from her home and like a lot of us, she parks at the nearby MBTA lot. The commuter rail is comfortable, quiet and there are plenty of places to sit. When shes riding she checks her email, reads, and occasionally works. While the comfort and convenience of the commuter rail are great, the ride to work is a bit costly. She brings her experience back to work with her as she advocates for corporate pass programs and pre-tax transit. She is excited to be working on updates to the TMA corporate pass program page; stay tuned for updates! Emma Groves, Commuter Services Representative Emma enjoys the time out of her day she spends commuting into work. Taking advantage of public transit as opposed to owning a car in the city is well worth while. She's very satisfied with the time it takes to get to work, and she always leaves time in her commute for if the train is a couple minutes late. She encourages drive-alone commuters to compare the costs of owning a car to riding the T. Juliet Dalton, Summer Intern Waking up between 5:30 and 6 am every morning is not problem for Juliet. The commute in by commuter rail is comfortable and spent reading, texting or talking on the phone. The cost of the commute in makes her trip less than ideal. However, she maintains peace of mind knowing she is whizzing by hundreds of folks waiting in traffic and doesn't have to worry about maintaining a car. She enjoys the commuter rail, there are plenty of seats, its quiet, never crowded and only occasionally a few minutes late. Tanya Stasio, Summer Intern Every morning I drive to the train station, park in the MBTA lot near Beachmont and arrive at work about 50 minutes later. I am a huge fan the blue line, its always cool in the summer and heated in the winter, not usually crowded, and on time. Traffic does make the drive to the station a bit long, but I appreciate that I am able to couple my commute with transit so I can park for an affordable price as opposed to driving all the way in. Coupling my drive with transit saves me gas money as well as time sitting in traffic. ABC TMA works together with employers, institutions, building owners and public sector representatives to address transportation issues in the Boston area as well as the region. We work together to ensure sustainable transportation options for your daily commute that are accessible and convenient.
