At the end of May, ABC TMA was joined by board members and program participants on an exclusive tour of MBTA’s Government Center Station. While still under construction, the group was able to see the major improvements that are underway, not the least of which is the increased light into the station from the glass atrium visible from the street. The tour leaders stressed that while they have encountered a few surprises (such as a nuclear bomb shelter stocked with food and supplies) the project is on track to finish in early 2016. At its completion, the Government Center Station will once again service the Green and Blue MBTA lines, bring the station into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Boston Center for Independent Living (BCIL) Agreement, and revitalize Government Center Plaza as a whole.
